Charity Events
At Heathfield House School we support three charities, one local, one national and one international. We fundraise for these charities throughout the year through a range of different events and initiatives. The charities are ‘St Mary’s Convent Nursing Home’, ‘Crisis’ and ‘Save the Children’.
St Mary’s Convent Nursing Home This is a local Nursing Home that provides care for the elderly. Run by the Anglican Sisters of St Margaret for over 100 years, the home offers a safe and caring environment and money raised goes towards the upkeep of the building and other on going projects. The children visit the convent throughout the year to perform songs and music from our Christmas and Summer productions. This is greatly enjoyed by both the residents and children, who also have the opportunity to look round the convent and meet some of the residents.
Crisis Crisis This charity works with homeless people, raising funds to make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society to help them empower themselves. A speaker from this charity will be coming into school to share information with the children on the work that is done and how the money they raise makes a difference.
Save the Children Save the Children fights for children in the UK and around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence. We use the school link programme through this charity, which allows us to learn about the lives of other children around the world.
The fundraising events and ideas we organise include a very popular cake sale, for which the children bring in cakes to be sold at school and our annual Heathfield House School tea towel, sporting a picture of every child in the school. At Christmas time the children also design their own individual Christmas cards and any proceeds from the sale of these go to support ‘Save the Children’.
In addition to these specific charities we also support other national charity days and events throughout the year including ‘Jeans for Genes Day’, ‘Sports Relief’, ‘Children in Need’ and ‘Red Nose Day’. We also have two non school uniform days, for which the children bring in £1, which is collected for our school charities.
Other charities that the school has fundraised for in previous years include ‘The Blue Cross Animal Hospital’ and a speaker from this charity came into school with ‘Barney’ the dog to speak to the children about the importance of looking after pets properly and treating animals with respect. We have also supported ‘Sense’ which provides support to deafblind people and their family members. A speaker from this charity came into school to talk to us about deaf and blind people and some of the projects funded by the charity that our money went towards.
